What is on around Taipei this weekend
Markets, small rooms and one thing worth leaving the city for, if the weather holds.
A weekend with enough on it that the weather will make the decision for you. If it holds, the riverside parks are the obvious answer: the paths along the Keelung and the Tamsui are at their best in the hour before sunset, and both are reachable without a car.
In town, the night markets do what they always do, but the smaller ones are the better bet at this time of year. Ningxia is manageable on a Saturday in a way that Shilin simply is not, and the queues keep moving.
There is live music across several small venues in Da’an and Zhongshan, most of it starting late and none of it expensive. Check the door time rather than the poster; small venues run behind almost as a matter of principle.
And if you want out of the city entirely, the northeast coast is an hour away by train and half empty by mid-afternoon, once the day trippers have turned around. Take a jacket. The wind up there does not care what the forecast said in Taipei.
