An air quality advisory is in place across parts of central Taiwan, with conditions expected to be at their worst through the afternoon before improving overnight.
An advisory is guidance rather than a restriction, and the guidance is the same each time. If you are sensitive to poor air — which includes children, older people, and anyone with asthma or a heart condition — keep outdoor activity short and move exercise indoors where you can.
For everybody else the practical advice is modest. Shut the windows on the side of the building facing the wind, run air conditioning on recirculation rather than fresh intake, and postpone the long run rather than the short walk.
Conditions in the affected counties are driven by weather and geography together, so they change with the wind rather than with the clock. The advisory will be lifted when readings fall back, and we will carry that here and on air when it happens.
