Typhoon day announced for Taipei and New Taipei
Offices and schools in both cities are closed tomorrow following this evening's announcement.
Taipei and New Taipei have both announced a day off work and school. The announcement came in the evening, as it usually does, once the forecast for the following morning was firm enough to act on.
What that means in practice: schools closed, most offices closed, and public services running at whatever level the weather allows. It does not mean everything stops. Transport, hospitals, utilities and the emergency services all work through a typhoon day, and a great many people will be going in as normal.
Check before you travel rather than after. Rail and air services change quickly once the wind gets up, and something running at seven may not be running at nine. Mountain roads and coastal roads are the first to close and the last to reopen.
The station stays on the air throughout, on 100.7, 100.1 and 100.8. English updates run through the night, and anything that changes is carried on the live desk as soon as it is confirmed.
