Records that defined a Taipei summer
An hour with the albums that soundtracked the season, and the people who chose them.
An hour on the albums that belong to a season rather than to a year. Not the biggest records of the summer — the ones that come back when the air turns heavy and the afternoon rain starts on schedule.
Summer records have a particular quality, and the episode spends a while trying to name it. Something about space in the mix, and tempos that suit walking rather than dancing. Something, too, about how you first heard them: on a scooter, through a shop doorway, from somebody else’s balcony.
The selections run from the international to the very local, and the local ones are the argument of the episode. A summer in Taipei does not sound like a summer anywhere else, and the records that catch it are usually made here.
Played at length where the rights allow and talked about where they do not. It is a long episode by design; this is not a show for a short journey.
