Transport update for commuters this week
Overnight track work, a diverted bus corridor and a reminder about card readers, for anyone whose week starts on a platform.
Most of this week’s disruption is planned, which is the good kind. Overnight track work means the last trains along part of the Blue Line finish earlier than usual, and the replacement buses leave from the street rather than the concourse — follow the marshals rather than the map you remember.
Above ground, a bus corridor through Zhongshan is running around roadworks. The stops are still there; the buses simply arrive at them from the other direction, which catches people out for about a fortnight every single time it happens.
If you tap in and nothing happens, it is usually the card rather than the gate. Readers get slower in humid weather, and a card kept behind a phone often will not register at all. Take it out of the case before you reach the barrier and you will save the person behind you a sigh.
